OIL THAT IS, BLACK GOLD, YOUR DATA!It's the Wild West again.
Everyone is looking for the new oil. Not the stuff that flows through pipelines; I'm talking about data, your data, your natural resource, and the information that will help your business transcend profitability over the months and years to come. Well, that was a great opening line. What does it really mean? Amazon, Google, Netflix and YouTube have all figured it out and are doing it quite well for years, not to mention the millions of dollars the VC's are putting into start-ups to better monetize data. 
Do you remember this line from the Beverly hillbillies theme song “Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea”? You don't have to wait for it to come bubbling up from the ground because it's gushing out in the form of Data. Your Data that you and your team have been collecting through sales processes, customer interactions and web page clicks, to name a few. Hopefully you're one of those organizations that have recognized this, and implemented some form of data capture through spreadsheets, CRMs, or Databases.
